The Revolution at 55

On 1st January 1959, with the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, human rights got a real meaning for Cuba and its people.

For the first time in history, Cuba achieved true independence, which enabled its people to exercise their right to self-determination and to create the conditions for full and universal enjoyment of all human rights for all.

The profound economic, political and social changes undertaken since then have made it possible to do away with the structural injustices inherited from colonial and neocolonial rule in Cuba.

The foundations of a democratic, fair, inclusive, equitable society were laid and continuous progress has been made.
